Preparing a Clear Marine Project Brief

The practical information that helps an engineering team understand scope, access, timing and operating constraints from the outset.

A useful project brief does not need to be long. It needs to make the operating problem clear. Start with the vessel, asset or location involved, the work required and the outcome the assignment needs to achieve.

Include the project location, target dates, access limitations and any known operational restrictions. Photographs, existing drawings, equipment information and previous inspection notes can help a technical team understand the context before mobilisation.

State which parties are involved and who can answer technical and commercial questions. Early clarity around responsibilities, permits, vessel access and interfaces reduces uncertainty during planning.

If part of the scope is still being defined, say so. A disciplined early conversation can separate confirmed requirements from items that need inspection or technical assessment.
